8BitDo announces its controllers now have Steam (SteamOS) compatibility

8BitDo has a plethora of controllers, and depending on whether you are buying a Bluetooth model, wireless model, or wired model, compatibility with your device differs. So far, 8BitDo controllers are compatible with Windows, Android, Switch, and iOS devices, although you have to do your due diligence to make sure you are purchasing the right controller for the right device. However, one platform 8BitDo has never expressly mentioned support for is Steam, until now.

The gaming accessory manufacturer has announced that its controllers now “offer Steam Compatibility”. The announcement which was made on X, also specifically mentions three models — the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless (available on Amazon for $59.99), the 8BitDo Pro 2 Bluetooth, and the 8BitDo SN30 Pro Bluetooth — have been fully optimized to work with Steam.

The product listings for the SN30 Pro and Pro 2 Bluetooth controllers now say that they are compatible with SteamOS Holo 3.4 and above. The SN30 Pro's Amazon listing also specifically mentions support for the Steam Deck. 

Owners of these controllers are advised to update both the firmware of their controller and their Steam client to the latest version. 8BitDo has also stated that full compatibility details will be revealed soon.
